GuideAway – Start your adventure.

UI Design | UX Design | Iconography

GuideAway is a location recommendation app. It’s the digital journey planner in your hand with tips based on your personal interests and conditions. To enjoy each day and explore the vacation location spontaneous without hours of research before the screen.

The purpose was to limit the research time for vacation trips based on personal preferences. Create, save or share tours and to get navigated along the way. It is an ad-free all-in-one solution for every journey.

This project was part of a UI Course from CareerFoundry and lasted for about three weeks. The program itself lasted for about four months. GuideAway was designed in Sketch and the prototype in InVision. Through user interviews, A/B testing and user feedback, I was able to reflect on the work again and adapt it.

My role was primarily that of a UI Designer. However, I did have to put my UX Designer capb on from time to time.

Retrospect

What went well?

The execution of the project went well. I was able to come up with the colour palette and typography early on. The layout, interface and look and feel are good too. After finishing the project, I got it reviewed by my peers and mentor. Everything went well except for minor issues.

What didn’t go well?

The project was done keeping a mobile-first approach and naturally due to shortage of time. I was not able to focus much on desktop design. It could be improved by optimizing it more and creating user flows for larger screens.

What could be better?

The desktop design could be improved by conducting usability tests for it. After all, the users are going to be the ones using the website. Usability testing, preference and A/B testing are all useful tools that could enhance the usability of the website.
